Prof. Kerryn Phelps AM is one of Australia’s best-known doctors, health communicators, and public health and civil rights advocates. A true pioneer in the fields of health communication and integrative medicine. She has been a GP for over 30 years and in 1985 started working in health communication, bringing messages about healthy lifestyle to the attention of the general public. She has regularly appeared on national TV current affairs and morning programs to provide expert advice on health issues and has been the subject matter of stories on 60 Minutes, Australian Story and This Is Your Life.
An advocate for child protection – having provided foster care for children at risk – she’s the founder and principal clinician at her two Sydney clinics, in Double Bay and Surry Hills. She’s also the first woman and first LGBT person to be elected president of the Australian Medical Association (AMA).
For the last 20 years, Prof. Phelps has been the popular health columnist for the Australian Women’s Weekly. In 2011, she was awarded an Order of Australia for service to medicine. Two years later, she was invited to meet with HRH Prince Charles and to open the Global Health Futures Conference in India. She’s published five books including the transformative “General Practice: The Integrative Approach, “The Cancer Recovery Guide”, with a foreword by HRH Prince Charles and her latest book, “The Mystery Gut”.
